Problem
The facilitation of learning and teaching at Elijah Barayi Memorial Training Centre was interrupted abruptly by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lock-down in South Africa. The EBMTC Students enrolled for the programmes during the 2019 period stood to lose the opportunity to continue their learning when they could not access the training Centre. EBMTC could not facilitate different means to continue offering courses during lock-down. Students had access to Laptops, but with no connectivity solution that is suitable for the demands of the designed programmes offered by EBMTC. Most importantly, since the situation was not budgeted for, EBMTC required solutions that don’t commit it to long term contracts that may not be required beyond lock-down.
The Solution
To overcome the challenge, Cosmo-ICT sourced Mobile MIFI Routers. It further partnered with Mobile Network Operator that had the best coverage over the areas of operation, MTN SA, to provide 20GB Data on an adjustable variable contract length and provided on-going support to the EBMTC Management and its Centre.
Impact
Through the partnership with Cosmo-ICT, EBMTC has been able to continue the learning and to teach its programmes online. Students have had minimal interruptions to their education. EBMTC continues to receive support from a flexible service provider.
